Spiritual Musings - 8
As I went through all articles of Spiritual Musings one after the other (https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing1, https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing2, https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing3 , https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing4 , https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing5, https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing6, and https://www.astrosaxena.com/Musing7 ), a few realizations were very prominent for me. These are –
We can either live at Mind level or at Consciousness level.
Most of us are living at Mind level.
At Mind level too, we can be living at any of the 3 Gunas; i.e. Rajas, Satva and Tamas. An individual can be prominently Rajasic or prominently Satvic or prominently Tamasic Guna.
The moment there is an equal balance between all 3 Gunas, person is back at Consciousness level or at Superconscious level. Then Gunas don’t rule the person, person rules Gunas.
Most importantly, a person can switch from Tamasic to Rajasic to Satvic at any moment. Any event of life can bring a shift in consciousness. Even a Serial Killer can have this switch and he can surrender himself and seek punishment for his crimes.
Now, it all seems that everything happens in this existence as per the basic nature of every living being or everything. We all are just following our nature. There is nothing like Good or Bad and Right or Wrong in this world. Everyone or everything is just following its basic nature. This judgment of Good or Bad comes from the conditioned mind as we are told from our childhood as to what is Good or what is Bad? If the same child is conditioned in reverse order then his priorities of Good or Bad will be completely opposite.
Even if we look at natural things or even non-living things then also we would realize that everything is just following its nature. It is Earth’s nature to gravitate things towards itself. Now, if someone jumps or falls from height, one is bound to fall on Earth and may be hurt his feet. He may feel that accident, falling and hurting is Bad but actually what happened was totally natural. Earth’s basic nature is to gravitate things towards itself. There is nothing good or bad in it. It is what it is.
Likewise, if we see all around us. Every individual, every animal or everything in this existence is following its basic nature. It is just that while following our basic nature/Guna, we happen to cross each other’s path and which brings some events due to our mutual connections as friends/enemy, family, relation or even when we are completely unknown to each other. After the event, the human mind makes a judgment as to whether the event is Good or Bad, as per its conditioning but if we see it without conditioning then there is nothing good or bad and right or wrong in anything that happens in this existence. Things or Events are just AS IS as per the nature.
Now, if while reading all this, you feel that does it mean that any crime occurring anywhere is not bad? Then understand that your mind has again overpowered your consciousness and started running as per the conditioning and its prominent Guna. The moment we get into any Judgment, we are again in mind.
Finally -
“Osho on Judgement
Osho : I have heard about one Mohammedan Sufi mystic. He used to sell small things in the village, and the people of that village became aware that he had no judgment. So they would take the things and give him false coins. He would accept them, because he would never say, ”This is wrong and this is right.” Sometimes they would take things from him and they would say, ”We have paid,” and he would not say, ”You have not paid.” He would say, ”Okay.” He would thank them.
Then from other villages also people started coming. This man was very good; you could take anything from his shop, you need not pay, or you could pay in false coins, and he accepted everything!
Then death came near to this old man. These were his last words: he looked at the sky and said, ”Allah, God, I have been accepting all kinds of coins, false ones also. I am also a false coin – don’t judge me. I have not judged your people, please don’t judge me.” And it is said that how can God judge such a person?
Jesus says, ”Judge ye not, so ye may not be judged.”
If judgment disappears, you have become innocent. If you don’t divide things into good and bad, ugly and beautiful, acceptable and nonacceptable; if you don’t divide things, if you look at reality without any division, your eyes will come into existence for the first time. This is chakshusmati vidya, the signs of gaining eyes.
If you divide you will remain blind, if you judge you will remain blind, if you say this is bad and this is good, you will persist in your blindness... because existence knows nothing. There is nothing good and nothing bad – existence accepts everything. And when you also accept everything you have become existence-like.
You have become one with it. So remember, morality is not religion. Rather, on the contrary, morality is one of the hindrances in gaining religion, just like immorality. Morality, immorality – both are hindrances. When you transcend both you have transcended the mind, the dual, the dualistic attitude.
Then the sage and the sinner have become one. Then you remain in your self, you don’t move to judge. And when you don’t judge, your mind cannot project: the mind projects through judgment.
