Perfect Predictions

When one remains in the occult and mystical field for a long period of time, it becomes inevitable to encounter people who are searching for the most perfect prediction possible. As a practitioner, I can genuinely understand this human desire—to know everything about the future with absolute clarity and certainty, well in advance. At the same time, I strongly feel that it is equally important to make people aware that perfect predictions are, in most cases, largely impossible. This understanding is what has inclined me to write this article.

The traditional approach in astrology for making any prediction is as follows: Birth Chart + Dashas + Transits = Event

This essentially means:
First, the Birth Chart must indicate the possibility of a particular event.
Second, the Mahadasha/Antardasha should activate that possibility within a specific time frame.
And finally, the Annual Transits should also support and indicate the same event, thereby showing the precise timing of its manifestation.

For example:
If someone seeks a consultation regarding the timing of a relationship, then— First, the Birth Chart must clearly show the possibility of a mutually beneficial relationship.
Second, the Mahadasha/Antardasha should activate the houses and planets related to relationships, thus triggering the potential for that event within a given period. And finally, the Annual Transits should also impact the same houses and planets related to relationships and indicate the occurrence of that event. This is what provides the precise timing of manifestation.
Hence, prediction of any long-term sustaining and meaningful event is traditionally considered a process that involves these three steps, in this exact sequence.

However, a major issue arises here. Even if the Birth Chart, Dashas, and Transits are all activating the same house or the same planet, that single house or planet itself represents thousands of different possibilities, events, and people. Then how can we be absolutely certain that only one specific event will manifest?

For instance, the 5th house represents Love/Romance, Children, Education, Sports, Creativity, Change of Job, Defamation, Politics, Counselors, and many more things. These are only a handful of the primary significations of the 5th house. Even if we restrict ourselves to just these significations, how can we be sure that a person will experience love or romance specifically, and not an increase in creativity or involvement in education instead? I have discussed this aspect earlier as well in another article titled Decoding Astrology:

https://www.astrosaxena.com/articles/DecodingAstrology

This is precisely where we need to add further steps to the formula of Birth Chart + Dashas + Transits = Event.

The fourth step should be the individual’s actions based on their Guna dominance—that is, whether they are predominantly Tamasic, Rajasic, or Satvic.

As discussed multiple times earlier, all representations of Houses, Planets, Signs, and Nakshatras can broadly be classified into the three Gunas: Tamas, Rajas, and Satva.
Tamas is destructive in nature.
Rajas is creative and action-oriented.
Satva is sustaining, balancing, and harmonizing in nature.

Some significations are destructive (Tamasic) by nature—for example, Mars representing anger or violence. Some are creative (Rajasic), such as Mars representing sports or athleticism. And some are sustaining (Satvic), such as Mars representing protection, safety, and defense.

Similarly, human beings also exist at different levels of consciousness. A person can be predominantly Tamasic, Rajasic, or Satvic. Based on their dominant Guna, they naturally get attracted to activities, expressions, and manifestations of Houses, Planets, Signs, and Nakshatras that resonate with that particular Guna.

The simplest example to illustrate this is that even if I possess a single rock, I can use it in multiple ways. I can use that rock to hit someone, which would be a Tamasic use of the rock. I can sculpt an idol from it, which would be a Rajasic use of the same rock. Or I can treat it as a sacred object and worship it, which would be a Satvic use of the rock.

If my intention is to harm someone with it, that indicates Tamasic dominance. If my intention is to create something, that reflects Rajasic dominance. And if my intention is worship, that clearly indicates Satvic dominance.

Likewise, every representation of all Houses, Planets, Signs, and Nakshatras can be expressed in these three ways. It entirely depends on the consciousness of the individual—where their intention lies. Whatever attracts a person reveals their dominant Guna.

If a person is predominantly Tamasic, then regardless of how much guidance or advice is given, they will naturally be drawn toward destructive activities. The same principle applies to the dominance of the other Gunas as well.

Another important point is that Guna dominance is not static; it is dynamic. This means that someone may be born with Tamasic dominance, but through various life situations and experiences, they are given opportunities to balance these Gunas. In fact, all circumstances and situations we encounter in life are mechanisms through which these Gunas seek balance.

If I feel anger toward someone, it is ultimately my choice whether I respond with a curse (Tamas) or with compassion (Satva). Choosing the higher response helps me move toward balancing my Gunas.

From my understanding of astrology and occult subjects over the last decade, this appears to be the primary purpose of occult sciences—to help us identify where we stand in our evolutionary journey based on Guna dominance, whether Tamasic, Rajasic, or Satvic, and then consciously work toward balancing these three Gunas in order to reach the fourth state, Nirguna, which is the ultimate destination of every soul.

Thus, this becomes the fourth step in the formula for perfect prediction—the individual’s actions based on their Guna dominance.

However, even if a person chooses actions according to their Guna dominance, it still does not guarantee that the event will manifest. Many times, we observe that even when individuals attempt the most Tamasic actions, which are considered as easiest to accomplish, the event still does not materialize.

As depicted in the movie A Man Called Otto, we are all aware of situations where people attempted crimes (I am inclined to include suicide as a crime from spiritual perspective) or destructive acts that seemed like the easiest option, yet they were unable to carry them out. Similarly, many events in our daily lives occur with little or no effort on our part, arriving unexpectedly as either pleasant or unpleasant surprises. This clearly indicates the presence of another force that either permits or blocks events from manifesting. This can be considered the fifth step of the formula for perfect prediction—Divine Will.

As Lord Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, one should focus on actions and not on the fruits of those actions. Why is that? Because action originates from the individual and is, at least temporarily, within our control. However, the result or fruit of action emerges from the entirety of existence. For a result to manifest, the whole existence must support that action from all directions.

As I often say, I can intend to write this article and take action toward writing it. But even as I am writing it, I do not know whether I will live long enough to publish it. For the result of publishing to manifest, I need the support of the entire existence—or in other words, Divine Will must also align with this event.

So now, we can formulate a more complete equation for perfect prediction: Birth Chart + Dashas + Annual Transits + Individual’s actions based on Guna dominance + Divine Will = Event

Now, the most crucial issue is that regarding the last two components—individual actions based on Guna dominance and Divine Will—we have virtually no concrete way of knowing or measuring them. This becomes the biggest obstacle in making perfect predictions.

As mentioned earlier, Guna dominance is constantly shifting and changing with every thought, choice, and decision a person makes. At least from my position, I cannot know at which Guna level a person is operating at any given moment, based on which they will take specific actions. I can only attempt to guide them toward Rajasic or Satvic actions. However, if a person is predominantly Tamasic, they will still be inclined toward Tamasic actions in the majority of cases.

Similarly, as long as I exist in human form, I cannot truly know Divine Will. To know Divine Will, one must become one with the Divine. And when that union happens, even the desire to know Divine Will dissolves.

Another way to understand Divine Will is to surrender one’s individualistic will. When personal ego-driven will is dropped, whatever is happening in existence is Divine Will itself.

But as stated earlier, since we have no real access to the last two steps—individual action based on Guna dominance and Divine Will—predictions remain, most of the time, in the realm of probability and possibility. Perhaps this is why these last two steps are not considered.

Most of the time, when predictions do come true, they relate to very basic life events such as relationships, marriage, childbirth, education, finances, or foreign travel. These events are meant to happen anyway and occur even in societies that do not follow astrology at all.

The real challenge arises when a client asks a higher-level question—for example, when a 20-year-old asks which part of the world would be best for practicing Advaita Vedanta. At that level, all predictive techniques collapse, especially if the astrologer himself has no experiential understanding of Advaita Vedanta.

Therefore, I believe we must accept that predicting the future is not the primary purpose of astrology or any occult science. The main purpose is to understand where one stands in terms of Guna dominance, how to evolve through conscious action, how to balance the Gunas, and how to eventually move toward the Nirguna state.

Another essential purpose of astrology and occult sciences is to help us realize and accept that our present circumstances are the result of our own past actions shaped by our Guna dominance. If we consciously change our actions today, we not only transform our Guna balance but also reshape our future.

If a thief consciously acknowledges that he is a thief, it becomes impossible for him to continue in that state. That very awareness initiates movement beyond it, because consciousness is always expanding, evolving, and refining itself. A truly conscious person cannot remain trapped at the lowest level of Tamas. A thief remains a thief only because he refuses to accept his condition and instead blames others for his situation. This allows the ego to continue operating unchecked—because if everything is someone else’s fault, there is no need to change.

For any real transformation to occur, one must first consciously accept, “I was wrong.” This acceptance alters action, and altered action reshapes the future.

In this way, astrology and occult sciences can genuinely help us improve our future. But predicting the future remains largely impossible unless one is directly connected with Divine Energy itself.

Therefore, use occult sciences as tools for evolution and conscious growth—to improve the future—rather than merely as tools for predicting it.
