Divine Will - A Device

Introduction of Concept - In normal walk of life, we hear this phrase from people that “everything is happening in the world because of God”. We also hear that “nothing can happen in this world without God’s Will”.

But then we see in the world that it is filled with crimes, wars and abuse on daily basis. Even infants are not spared from such abuse and we get to hear these stories almost every hour. So, can we say that even these crimes or wars are happening due to God’s will or a God sitting in seventh heaven is approving these atrocities on even infants? And if it is so then what is the difference between this God and that Satan?

God - Individual Vs Energy? - This is where I think we have to move away from the concept of God as an Individual and accept God as Energy. The problem with the concept of God as Individual is that once we see God as Individual then we apply all the human traits and characteristics of humans on to this God. Bible says that “God has created Man in His own image”. But Osho says that reality is that “Man has created God in his own image”.

So, to understand this concept of “everything is happening in the world because of God”, we need to accept the concept of God as Energy which is pervading throughout this existence. Actually, if we think about it, then definition of Energy and God is exactly the same.

Energy and Gunas - As discussed multiple times in my articles under "Spiritual Musings" ( https://www.astrosaxena.com/articles/SpiritualMusings ), this Energy is only called as Consciousness, Soul or God by different people. We also discussed that when this energy gets channelized through a conditioned human mind then it gets split into 3 directions of 3 Gunas (Rajasic, Satvic and Tamasic) and every human mind utilizes the energy as per his conditioning.

If he is conditioned as Tamasic prominent person then he will utilize the energy in Tamasic (destructive) activities. If he is conditioned as Rajasic prominent person then he will utilize the energy in Rajasic (creative) activities. If he is conditioned as Satvic prominent person then he will utilize the energy in Satvic (sustaining) activities.

Obviously, as person goes through different experiences throughout life and as he responds or reacts to those life experiences, these Gunas level will change and not necessary that a Tamasic prominent person in beginning of life will also die as Tamasic prominent person.

Another thing can create a misunderstanding that we can think that Tamasic Guna is negative and it should not even be present in our life and life should be all about Satvic Guna.

Well, if Tamasic Guna is not there then we cant even take proper sleep. So, Tamasic Guna is not harmful as Guna of inaction or inertia but it becomes harmful as Guna of destruction.

Also, Satvic Guna is about balancing between Rajasic and Tamasic Gunas. Now, if Tamasic Guna goes away then what can be balanced by Satvic? There has to be Rajasic and Tamasic both Gunas then only Satvic Guna can balance the two. So, we need all 3 Gunas to function in this existence.

Happening of any event - Now, coming back to original topic. As I said, when this Energy (God) gets channelized through a conditioned human mind then it gets split into 3 directions of 3 Gunas (Rajasic, Satvic and Tamasic) and every human mind utilizes the energy as per his conditioning (Rajasic or Satvic or Tamasic prominent).

So, it means that even to do something destructive/Tamasic (crime or war), you need energy. Now, in this sense, we can say that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” as to do something destructive too, you need energy in your body. But it is not the best of utilization of Energy. It may be the worst utilization of energy.

Moreover, the person who is committing a crime or a politician who is initiating a war to sell weapons, he is not conscious of this concept that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy”. If we commit any action with 100% conscious state of mind that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” then we can never do anything wrong in life. Every destructive action is taken in this world in an unconscious state.

Now, this energy can be channelized through Rajasic Guna or actions and it can be channelized through Satvic Guna or actions too. Then also we can say that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” but then it will be better utilization of Energy.

Mundane Consciousness Vs Divine Consciousness - Ideally, this statement that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” should be made by a person who has attained the super-conscious state, who has realized that everything is Gunas interplay or who has become enlightened (in popular language). As Sahir Ludhianwi said -

"सज़ा का हाल सुनाएँ जज़ा की बात करें.
ख़ुदा मिला हो जिन्हें वो ख़ुदा की बात करें. "

(Poorly translated, it would mean that everyone should speak of only up to their level and only a person who has attained God should talk about God.)

So, only a person who has attained the Divine Consciousness can say that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” as He is not going to do anything destructive. Krishna, even if He enters the battlefield then also He will enter with a vow that He is not going to kill anyone.

But as long as we are not at that state of Nirguna or Divine Consciousness then we should honestly take responsibility of every action done by us (either creative or destructive) and it is always the case that we have no problem in claiming the credit of Creative actions, we can do it easily. We remember God to take or share the blame only when we involve ourselves in anything destructive.

So, as long as we are living in our conditioned mind and as per our prominent Gunas then we should take full responsibility of our actions so that we can evolve through Gunas. And when someone reaches to the Divine Consciousness then speak in this language that “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy”. Before that, it can be very dangerous language for a basic human mind.

A Device - Now, if we want to truly understand that what is this concept of “everything is happening in the world because of God/Energy” or “whatever happens, happens out of God’s Will” or “Whatever God does, does for Good only” then we may realize that it is only a Device which mystics have created so that we can surrender our ego to the Divine.

This is a Device or a way by which you can surrender yourself or your ego to the Divine and accept that nothing is in your hand and everything in your life is taken care by Divine. This is a Device which can help us to completely surrender ourselves and our egoistic ideas to existence or energy and leave everything on existence as existence knows what is best for us.

Now, if someone can truly do this surrendering of his ego then there is no question of committing any crime or abuse or war as all destructive activities are done to satisfy our ego or egoistic desires only. When someone has truly surrendered his ego to divine then he cannot have any egoistic idea to attain for which he may have to destroy any other person.
