Mars transit from Gemini to Leo, 2026-27

During second half of year 2026, we will go through a transit which could prove to be a difficult one for us, if we choose to remain unaware. In that case, it can even prove to be life-transforming transit for many of us. This is when Mars will go back & forth into Cancer & Leo signs from mid-Sep, 2026 to first week of July, 2027. So, it will be a big time window of about 10 months. If we include Mars in Gemini transit also where Mars is in enemy sign then it covers almost the whole year (12 months). This is too long a time period for Mars to remain in difficult transit. As I always look for proactive approach in preparing for difficult times, I feel that it is the right time for us to be aware of this difficult transit so that we can prepare proactively.

Important Energies – There are at least 4 energies which will become important during this Mars’s transit. These are - 

Mars – Mars represents our will power, courage, ability to take actions, aggressive nature, anger, our fighting ability, brother, male friends, a boyfriend for a girl, a soldier, an athlete and real estate etc. Mars rules Aries and Scorpio. 

Gemini – Gemini is a great enemy sign for Mars as it is ruled by Mercury. Mars-Mercury are ferocious enemies to each other. Mars in Gemini transit can easily cause aggressive behaviour, aggressive communications, urge for rash driving, accidents, injuries and surgeries etc. 

Cancer – Cancer is debilitated sign of Mars. Hence, Mars is at its weakest dignity. Here also, Mars in Cancer transit can easily cause aggressive/violent behaviour, aggressive communications, urge for rash driving, accidents, injuries and surgeries etc.

Leo - Leo is 5th sign of the zodiac belt, hence it represents the things associated with 5th house of horoscope like Love, Creativity, Arts, Being on Stage etc. Besides that, Leo is basically the Lion. This is the sign of feeling like King or Queen. Also, it is a sign of independence, Confidence, Ego, Self Esteem etc. Leo is consisted of 2 and half Nakshatra namely Magha, Purva-Phalguni and Uttara-Phalguni. Leo's lord is Sun.

Needless to say that everything I am going to say now depends upon the whole chart. Chart + Dasha + Transit = Event. This is general rule. So, please don’t make any conclusion just because of one transit. At the same time, as it is a long duration transit, proactive approach is suggested. 

Duration of Transit – Although Mars retrograde transit is 80 days; i.e. from 10th Jan, 2027 to 31st Mar, 2027, but the fact that Mars will lose its dignity in Gemini and Cancer sign and then it will be retrograde from Leo to Cancer and then it will also go back & forth in these two signs for months altogether, makes this transit very difficult and challenging for all of us. So, it is better to think that we have to be very careful for all 12 months of this transit rather than only 80 days. 

One may say that Mars will gain its dignity in Leo but we have to remember that Mars is a naturally malefic planet, Mars and Leo both are fiery by nature and then Mars will transit back & forth in Leo/Cancer in retrograde state where it can be further intense due to closeness with Earth. So, it is better to be careful for whole 12 months rather than only 80 days of Mars retrograde duration. 

 I am emphasizing on taking proactive care from the times when Mars enters in Gemini as Mars will be losing the dignity in Gemini Sign. Every two years, Mars enters in Gemini/Cancer signs and as it loses the dignity in both signs, we can say that Mars loses its dignity for continuous 90 days every two years. 

In 2026-27, Mars will go back & forth in Cancer and complete its transit from Gemini to Leo in 12 months (which otherwise it would have completed in about 4.5 months), it is necessary to take proactive care from Mars in Gemini transit only. It may give us the initial glimpses of the results we can expect during Mars in Cancer/Leo. 

Whole Duration of Transit -

1. Mars will come in Gemini from 2nd Aug, 2026 and will stay there till 18th Sep, 2026. As Mars is in great enemy sign here, we will start seeing difficult results from here only as discussed later in article. 

2. Then Mars will be in Cancer till 18th Sep, 2026 and it will stay there till 12th Nov, 2026. As Mars is debilitated in Cancer, we need to be on our toes during this time to avoid any malefic result as discussed later in article. 

3. Then Mars will enter in Leo on 12th Nov, 2026 and it will stay there 12th March, 2027 when it will go back in Cancer. Here, Mars will be in friendly sign. 

4. Then Mars will go back in Cancer from 12th March, 2027 and will stay there till 25th April, 2027. As Mars is again debilitated in Cancer, we need to be again very proactive during this time to avoid any malefic result as discussed later in article.

5. Then finally, Mars will again enter in Leo from 25th April, 2027 and will stay there till 5th July, 2027. Here, Mars will be in friendly sign again. Like this, Mars will transit from Gemini to Leo in about 12 months. 

6. Mars will start retrograde on 10th Jan, 2027 at 16 degree Leo and will go back till 26 Degree Cancer on 31st Mar, 2027. Although, the retrograde motion will finish on 31st Mar, 2027 but Venus will remain in Shadow Period till it again reaches 16 degree of Leo on 8th June, 2027. Shadow Period is when the planet is although moving ahead but still gives the results of retrograde motion till it reaches the point from where it started retrograde motion. So, from 10th Jan, 2027 onwards till 8th June, 2027, either Mars is in retrograde time or shadow period. 

7. One may say that Mars will gain its dignity in Leo (between Nov, 2026 to March, 2027 and then between April, 2027 to July, 2027). Hence, it should be better than Mars in Gemini/Cancer. Yes but as discussed, it should be as it is gaining dignity but we have to remember that Mars is a naturally malefic planet, Mars and Leo both are fiery by nature and then Mars will transit back & forth in Leo/Cancer in retrograde state where it can be further intense due to closeness with Earth. So, it is better to be careful for whole 12 months rather than only 80 days of Mars retrograde duration. Even if it is strong in Leo then also in order to regain any good result of Mars in Leo transit, we have to be very alert and vigilant.

As Cancer sign was involved there too in retrograde motion, reflecting back at events of 2024-25 can also help us in preparing for this transit. 

Let’s understand this unique transit of Mars step-by-step – 

First Phase - 

Mars in Gemini – As we can see that Mars will come in Gemini from 2nd Aug, 2026 and will stay there till 18th Sep, 2026. It is sign of its great enemy Mercury. So dignity-wise, Mars is weak. Some common results can be seen like -

a. Mars is aggression and Gemini is communication, so people can get argumentative over any matter and can get into verbal fights. As Mars represents violence too, it can lead to physical fights too.

b. Mars is also technology and as Gemini is communication, we can see some technical issues in our communications or interacting with people.

c. Mars represents speed and Gemini is travelling, so avoid driving fast, rash or negligently else people can get into accidents.

d. Even if you don't drive and only travel then use helmets and seat belts without fail. These days we see people using mobiles even while walking or driving or using steps, please avoid it. Just be aware of your actions and your surroundings.

e. Then this transit can be more challenging for Cancer, Scorpio and Capricorn ascendant people as Mars will be transiting in Dushthana Houses for them. Likewise, for any ascendant if Mars is transiting difficult houses (Upachaya, Dushthana, Maraka or with no Digbala) then it will be a challenging transit.

f. At the same time, Mars represents our actions/efforts and Gemini is sign of business and collecting information. So, same energy and action of Mars can be utilized working extra in business or in collecting more information through educating further. 

g. Generic advice - Avoid arguments as far as possible, be careful while driving/travelling/running/walking and please meditate.

H. Mars in Gemini and Ketu in Leo will create Paap Kartari Yoga for Cancer sign. This will limit the results of the House where Cancer falls in chart. We should limit our expectations from people related with that House. We can still get results of non-living significances of that house during this transit. 

Then Mars has 3 aspects –

a. Mars 4th aspect will be on the house where Virgo falls in our chart. Person will try to take control in matters related to that house. Now, bad dignity Mars aspect on Virgo can make situation very explosive in area of life where Virgo falls in chart.

b. Mars 7th aspect will be on the house where Sagittarius falls in our chart. This can also make people rigid about what they believe-in or bring some major changes in belief system. 

c. Then Mars 8th aspect will be on the house where Capricorn falls in chart. We can see some sudden events and changes in that area of life.

Second Phase - 

Mars in Cancer – Then Mars will be debilitated in Cancer till 18th Sep, 2026 and it will stay there till 12th Nov, 2026. Mars will again go back in Cancer from 12th March, 2027 and will stay there till 25th April, 2027. 

Reasons behind debilitation of Mars in Cancer – Basically, Mars represents our ability to take actions and put efforts. Cancer is the sign of Emotions. So, the basic reason behind Mars’ debilitation in Cancer is that this person is making actions and efforts out of his emotions rather than any logic or practical grounds. Mars is exalted in Capricorn as it is an Earth Sign and person taking actions has some stable grounds behind those actions. Cancer is directly opposite to Capricorn. Hence, Mars in Cancer would represent actions without any logical or practical grounds and purely out of emotions. As Cancer is a Water sign, their actions are not focused at one goal and can be floating everywhere. Overall, as a person is taking his life decisions and actions out of emotional reasons, Mars is considered as debilitated here.

Reasons behind debilitation of Mars in Ashlesha – Now again, why Mars is debilitated in Ashlesha Nakshatra and not in earlier nakshatras of Pushya or Punarvasu?

Ashlesha represents our clinging nature. It represents our insecurities in life. So, when Mars is in Ashlesha/Cancer, not only that person is taking actions out of emotions but main reason behind those actions can be his insecurities or fear of future. So, person is not taking actions due to a specific purpose or goal in mind but his actions are coming out of his fears.

Best example can be someone deciding about marrying a person because they are afraid that they may not get another person in future. So, their insecurities and fear of future is making them take certain actions.

Reasons behind debilitation of Mars at 28 degrees – The only reason which I could think here is that not only Ashlesha is one of Gandamool Nakshatra but at 28 degrees, it is in one of Gandanta Degrees too. As Gandanta degrees are related with drowning, Mars at 28 degree Ashlesha shows a person who is acting just to safeguard himself. He is taking actions in a fearful state of mind or in panic state where he feels that he is losing everything in life. Such an action can never be a dignified action.

Following results can be expected of Mars in Cancer transit – 

1. Cancer is sign of emotions, taking care of others and nourishing people. Hence, this sign is related with Health Care and Teaching etc. 

2. As Mars is actions, it shows that people can be involved in lots of activities related with health care and nourishing others. Actually, it will be the better use of this transit. People should involve themselves in activities related to healing and nurturing. This includes any work of nourishment which includes food industry, housing industry, fashion industry etc. 

3. But then, as Mars is debilitated in Cancer which can cause emotional set-backs to people. That’s where I see that Mars in Cancer transit can be most troublesome where people may lose their calm due to their emotional losses. This can create a stressful situation. 

4. So, the biggest task in this transit is to remain calm and peaceful, no matter how difficult it sounds? There are always peaceful and legal ways of registering your protests, objections or oppositions. We need to divert energy from aggression to healing under current circumstances.

5. In other matters, Mars in Cancer can bring dominance and control issues, anger and aggression in personal issues. So, in relationship matters too, people need to keep a high level of patience to sail through this time. It will be better to reflect back in situations of disappointments and sort out issues internally rather than projecting on others. 

6. Mars in Cancer can also cause accidents, surgeries and blood-shed of any kind. Hence, take proper proactive care to avoid such circumstances. 

7. Aries and Scorpio ascendant people should be more careful as Mars is their ascendant lord. Aries people should be more careful as Mars will be in their 4th house/Cancer where it loses its directional strength too. Same thing can be said for the matters of houses where Aries and Scorpio sign fall in your chart. We need to be extra careful in matters related with that house. 

8. Also, if Mars is transiting your Dushthana houses (6th, 8th and 12th), Maraka Houses (2nd and 7th) or if Mars is Dushthana lord for you then also proper care is needed to sail through this transit. 

9. Ashlesha is Nakshatra of emotional insecurities. So, this transit can be most challenging when Mars is in Ashlesha Nakshatra. This is where the biggest possibility can be there that people may lose their calm due to their insecurities and emotional loss. Emphasizing on this time doesn’t mean that remainder of transit will be pleasant. Again, Ashlesha also represents Kundalini Energy. So, we can utilise this transit in Meditation and Spiritual Pursuits too. 

11. Our anger or aggression can be ill-directed. We can throw our frustration or anger at people who didn’t do anything wrong to us. Anyways, I don't think anyone deserves anyone else's anger or frustration. But as Mars is in weakest dignity, our aggression can be misdirected. Now, every house represents some relations in our life. So, whichever house Mars is transiting in your chart, your aggression can be directed towards people represented by that house. Like, an Aries ascendant person can find relation with Mother or home environment charged up whereas a Gemini ascendant person will feel the pinch in family life and can have aggressive speech. So, we need to be careful while dealing with such people to maintain the cordial relation. Like, from Sagittarius to Pisces ascendant, Mars will be transiting in houses which represent romantic relationship or conflicts in relation. Hence, they need to show more patience to sustain their relationship. 

12. Mars will also have conjunctions with Jupiter and Ketu in Cancer sign which we will understand in a separate article. 

Then Mars has 3 aspects –

a. Mars 4th aspect will be on the house where Libra falls in our chart. Person will try to take control in matters related to that house. 

b. Mars 7th aspect will be on the house where Capricorn falls in our chart. People of the house, where Capricorn falls in chart, may feel that we are trying to dominate them or control them. 

c. Then Mars 8th aspect will be on the house where Aquarius falls in chart. We can see some sudden events and changes in that area of life. 

Third Phase -

Mars in Leo - Mars will be in Leo Sign from 12th Nov, 2026 to 12th March, 2027 and then from 25th April, 2027 to 5th July, 2027. 

Following results can be expected for Mars in Leo transit - 

1. First of all, it is a welcome change and major relief for all of us as Mars is coming out of its debilitation sign and actually deepest debilitation at 28 degrees Cancer. 

2. So, 1st benefit is that Mars would be in a good dignity. Mars in Leo is like energized Mars. Leo is a fiery sign and Mars is a fiery planet. So, there will be lots of fire and aggression in actions in coming 45 days. Especially in the house related things where Leo falls in your chart. Like, for me, it is 10th house transit. So, I can be super-active in my career-oriented matters. 

4. Also, Mars-Ketu will be together in Leo as Ketu has also turned into Leo. Now again, not only Mars and Leo are fiery by nature but Ketu also represents fire accidents. So, we have to be very careful dealing with fire or fiery things or even fiery people. 

5. Likewise, we all can find ourselves very active in the matters related with the house where Leo is falling in chart. We can be very active, aggressive and ambitious but many of us may also be utilizing the energy in dominance and control. 

6. Although, it can be a good transit to pursue creativity as Leo is a sign of creativity too but all this fire, action and aggression needs to be diverted in right direction of creativity or ambitions else it can easily take shape of anger, aggression and dominance.

7. This too much of Fire element can lead to dominance and control struggle. Relationship can get hurt due to same fire and heat. Wherever Mars-Ketu will be transiting in Leo sign as per your ascendant, there can be lots of aggression, dominance, fire and heat in matters related with that house in your chart. Like, if Mars-Ketu are in 4th house/Leo then aggression at home and if Mars-Ketu are in 10th house/Leo then aggression at workplace. 

8. As Malefic planets are not natural providers and dealing with even one malefic can be a difficulty, in that case we need to be extra careful as Mars-Ketu are coming together. Mars-Ketu co-rule Scorpio. So, in whichever House Mars-Ketu are together in your birth chart or during transit, you can see chaos and changes like Scorpio there. So, we need to continue to be careful against aggression, dominance, sudden events, accidents etc. in the area of life represented by the house where Mars-Ketu are transiting as per your chart in next 45 days. 

9. This can be even more prominent for people who already have malefic or malefics in Leo sign in whichever house of chart. Like, I have Rahu-Saturn in 10th house/Leo and Mars-Ketu will transit there. So, it is clearly a battleground in 10th house related matters. 

10. Mars-Ketu in Leo and Saturn in Pisces will create Maraka Impact on Aquarius Sign as they are 2nd/7th from Aquarius. As Aquarius sign is anyways going to have a difficult transit due to PKY created by Rahu in Capricorn and Saturn in Pisces, we can’t expect much results from the house related things or people where Aquarius falls in chart. 

11. Only relief factors are that Mars is in good dignity and conjunct with a strong Jupiter for most of time, in comparison with the recently concluded transit of Mars in Gemini/Cancer which was there for 9 months. 

12. So, this transit of Mars in Leo can be utilised better in real estate, creativity, career or business field but not in human relationship matters. The biggest challenge would be to redirect the aggressive energy in creative or productive activities. 

13. If Leo is in one of Dushthana houses or Mars is losing Digbala in 4th house, then person needs to be very careful against aggression, dominance struggle, illness, conflicts, accidents and expenses.

14. Still Mars in good dignity can benefit us if we are able to direct our actions in right direction and it can be much better time than last 9 months, at least in Ajeeva Karakas. 

15. Now, this Mars transit is creating quite a few joint impacts with other planets for 45 days, besides the Mars-Ketu conjunction we talked above and these are – 

a. 4th aspect of Mars will be on Scorpio which shows our desire to take control of that area of life where Scorpio falls in chart. So, wherever Scorpio sign falls into the chart, we would try to take control of that area of life. Also, as Mars is aspecting its own sign, it will strengthen Scorpio. So, we can expect things related to house where Scorpio falls, to get strengthened but only after facing natural chaos of Scorpio. 

b. 7th aspect of Mars will be on Rahu in Aquarius and Rahu will also aspect back at Mars in Leo. This will create Angarak Yoga energy and fire of Mars-Ketu in Leo can further explode due to Rahu’s impact on Mars. Again, its our free will as to how we want to utilize this extra energy indicated by Angarak Yoga; i.e. either creatively or destructively. 

c. Mars-Saturn – Mars aspects Saturn in Pisces with its 8th aspect. This combination can lead to lots of frustration as Mars wants to achieve things right now but Saturn is all about delay, hard work and perseverance. So, when Mars tries to achieve things quickly, Saturn brings blocks and barriers. End result is obvious frustration. It means that if we want to get the best results then we need to work really hard and show perseverance in area of life wherever Pisces fall in our chart. 8th aspect is also an aspect of instability, changes and determination. So, we can be feeling frustrated due to continuous changes and instability but if we put perseverant and determined efforts, things can be better. 

Mars retrograde from Leo to Cancer – Then Mars will go back in Cancer from Leo and make us reflect back on all the above things mentioned about Mars in Leo& Mars in Cancer transit and make us re-engage in same activities again to complete the work. It will also make us reflect back on matters related to the houses where Aries & Scorpio fall into our chart. Mars retrograde time period can also bring lethargy or procrastinating attitude in life. This retrograde transit of Mars will be from 10th Jan, 2027 to 31st Mar, 2027.

Overall Impact – I think to understand the overall impact of this transit, we have to keep in mind the concept of Jeeva Karaka and Ajeeva Karaka ( http://astrosaxena.com/jkak   ) which says that during any difficult planetary position in birth chart or transits, we can still get the results of non-living significances of the house where such position/transit is taking place but results of living significances will depend on lots of other factors. For example, being a Scorpio ascendant, this Mars transit will be in my 8th house/9th house. I can expect good results in business but I should be careful about health and relationship aspect of life. 

As we know that Mars is among the malefic planets and is supposed to give some hardships in our life, hence it is necessary to be aware that what type of hardships we can expect in coming months. It may be argued and it is generally asked by clients why God or these planets send us hardships? Why can’t life be all fun and joy? My response to them is always to remember some event in their life when they were too happy due to some achievement and then ask yourself what is actually making them happy? The achievement itself, or victory over all the hurdles which they crossed with their courage and will-power? It is obviously the happiness of overcoming obstacles. So, all the malefic planets or God brings hardship in our life in order to make us realize our true potential. That’s why, these hurdles and facing them is very necessary in life.

Aries Ascendant or Aries Moon sign – For Aries people, Mars rules 1st house/8th house and it will transit into 4th house/5th house. This shows need to take extra care of health of mother. Home environment can be filled with aggression. It also shows conflicts in relationship. Not a good time to start a new relationship. Home life can be disturbed. Relationship life can be non-existent. Lots of changes in overall life which destroys the peace of mind. Relation with in-laws can also be sour.  It shows that person’s whole life path can go through a major change and that change is going to affect their home life and their relationship with Mother and younger sibling

Taurus Ascendant or Taurus Moon sign – For Taurus people, Mars rules 7th house/12th house and it will be transiting 3rd house/4th house. It shows that person’s relationship life can go through a major change and that change is going to affect their home life and their relationship with Mother and younger sibling. It also shows major issues with partner or conflicts at home in matters of relationship. Home environment can be really volatile. Need to take care of communications and while driving/travelling. Not a good time to have a property deal. Need to accommodate a lot in relationship matters. Time to focus on business. 

Gemini Ascendant or Gemini Moon sign – For Gemini people, Mars rules 6th house/11th house and it will be transiting 2nd house/3rd house. It shows that person can go through some major changes in work place and health matters. Person needs to try his level best to avoid health issues and conflicts. Family setup can be disturbed due to aggression or dominance struggles. Person may not be able to save money as 11th lord is debilitated in 2nd house of wealth. This also shows health issues or conflicts with Partner. Again, person may have to adjust a lot in matters of family life and relationship to sustain it. Person can be abusing his strength, will-power, speech and courage. Not a time to begin a new relationship. 

Cancer Ascendant or Cancer Moon sign – For Cancer people, Mars rules 5th house/10th house and will be transiting 1st house/2nd house. This shows that major change at work place can bring changes in overall life. Person needs to be careful about his own and father’s health. Person can have lots of instability at work place. Person can consider changing job or career itself. It also shows that person can be spending a lot of money. Saving money would be very difficult. Person can find himself very aggressive. Again, it will be better to redirect the extra energy in matters of Sports, Gym or Yoga but projecting this aggression on others can be troublesome. 

Leo Ascendant or Leo Moon Sign – For Leo people, Mars rules 4th house/9th house and will be transiting 12th house/1st house. This shows possible change in matters of home and mother. Person can go away from home land. Person can be spending a lot of money in these matters. This also shows loss of work or authority. This also means loss of recognition or fame in public. Father’s health can also be a concern. Major changes in family can be seen. It can be a time of a major change in career matters.
