Divorce - A Social Phenomenon

So, just to clarify a point which was raised during yesterday’s session. Question was regarding Divorce.

As I consider astrology to know the timing of relationship, I would consider astrology only to know the timing of separation. Just like Marriage is a social institution which differs in every society, Divorce also remains a social concept which can have different meaning in different societies.

So, the rule is that whenever person’s 1st house, 6th house and 10th house are getting activated as per dashas and majority of transits are also indicating towards these houses, person can go through a separation. It is because 1st house is self, 6th house is dispute and 10th house is authority figure. It shows that person can get into dispute during this dasha/transits and can go towards authorities like Judges to decide the matter.

I would consider it as a time of Separation, but not of Divorce. Especially, not for someone who is in societies like India where Divorce is considered as Stigma. I have seen many a cases where partners don’t even like to see each other faces but still dragging the relation/marriage because they don’t want to be called as divorcee. Many a times the reason for dragging a dead relation can be financial or children involved. So, Separation is there at physical or mental level but it is not getting recognition through courts or society as person doesn’t have guts to file litigation. So, even if a person has activation of all the 3 above mentioned houses through dasha/transit both but I would still say that it would be a time of conflicts and separation. Whether those 2 individuals will file for divorce and whether that divorce will actually take place or not, depends on lots of social factor.

Someone can suggest that if 10th house is getting active then surely person is going to Govt or Law or Judges to decide the matter. In that case, we can surely say that a legal event like Divorce would take place.

But even in that case I would limit myself up to separation only, physical or mental. Because 10th house represents many authority figures and few of those authority figures are your father, father figures and elders of family/society. And in many cases we see that these people intervene and reconcile the dispute between couple.

So as I see, Astrology can help you in understanding the time of conflict or separation but whether that separation will go up to legal divorce or not, it depends on various social factors.

A common question during relationship consultation is that if I have chances of divorce in my chart?

The common and simple response is that yes, chances of divorce are there in every chart because every chart has 6th house or 6th house lord of disputes, 12th house or 12th house lord (6th from 7th house - disputes with partner) and Ghatni Karaka etc.

Also, if someone is planning to get married then I am sure that they are looking for a long term bond. Now, in this long duration, you will have all sorts of dashas and transits which can activate houses/planets of disputes and conflicts. You can't expect only smooth sailing dashas to go through whole of your life.

So, there will be good or bad times in any relation and the people in relationship need to realize the complexities involved and work accordingly to sustain the relation.
